This species can reach a maximum adult size of approximately 3 inches (7.5 cm). Sexual dimorphism is subtle, with males typically displaying slightly more intense coloration and larger dorsal fins compared to females. Defensive adaptations include a robust, laterally compressed body that allows for agile maneuvering among reef structures, and a set of sharp, pointed spines on the dorsal fin that can deter potential predators.
