Corydoras nijsseni, commonly known as Nijssens Corydoras, is a small armored catfish characterized by its laterally compressed, fusiform body shape, typically reaching a maximum adult size of approximately 2 inches (5 cm). The species exhibits sexual dimorphism, with males generally being slightly smaller and more slender than females, especially during the breeding season when females become more robust due to egg development. The body is predominantly pale, adorned with bold dark markings that manifest as large spots or saddle patterns, providing a striking contrast. This species possesses the characteristic bony armor of the Callichthyidae family, with a series of bony plates covering the body, and features prominent barbels that aid in foraging along the substrate.
