Acropora valida is a robust, branching small polyp stony (SPS) coral characterized by its intricate, dendritic growth form. This species can reach a maximum adult size of approximately 30 centimeters in height and 60 centimeters in width, featuring a series of slender, elongated branches that radiate outward. The coral exhibits minimal sexual dimorphism, as both male and female polyps share similar morphological traits. Unique to A. valida are its prominent axial corallites, which are larger than the radial corallites, giving the colony a distinctive appearance. The corallites are typically spaced closely together, with a smooth texture, and can exhibit a range of colors from pale blue to vibrant green, often with contrasting tips. Defensive adaptations include the presence of potent nematocysts within the polyps, which can deliver a mild sting to potential threats, and the ability to rapidly extend its polyps to capture prey or deter herbivores.
