Dragon Goby / Violet Goby Care Guide
Gobioides broussonnetii · Freshwater Fish

What Dragon Goby / Violet Goby look like
Gobioides broussonnetii has an elongated ribbonlike body, wide blunt head, small eyes, and a large mouth adapted for sifting fine food particles from mud and sand. The body is usually gray to violet with a subtle iridescent sheen.
Behavior & temperament
Despite the shop name, this species is not a standard freshwater community fish. It is peaceful but large, shy, and best maintained in hard alkaline freshwater only short term or, preferably, low-end brackish water with sand, caves, gentle tank mates, and careful feeding.
Diet & feeding
Dragon Gobies are micro-predatory sifters and filter-feeders. Feed sinking wafers, fine pellets, frozen bloodworms, mysis, brine shrimp, chopped worms, and powdered foods that reach the substrate. Thin specimens usually need targeted feeding after lights dim.
Behind the name
Gobioides means goby-like; broussonnetii honors French naturalist Pierre Marie Auguste Broussonet.
