Oriental Fire-Bellied Toad Care Guide
Bombina orientalis · Freshwater Reptile/Amphibian

What Oriental Fire-Bellied Toad look like
Bombina orientalis is a small semi-aquatic anuran with a flattened body, warty dorsal skin, webbed feet, and a bright orange to red ventral surface marked with dark blotches. The vivid belly is exposed during defensive posturing and warns predators of skin toxins.
Behavior & temperament
Oriental Fire-Bellied Toads are active, social amphibians that use both shallow water and land. They often float, climb onto emergent surfaces, call, and forage for moving prey. They secrete mild toxins, so they should not share water with fish or be mixed with other amphibian species.
Diet & feeding
Oriental Fire-Bellied Toads eat small live invertebrates such as crickets, roaches, fruit flies, blackworms, earthworm pieces, waxworms, and small aquatic insects. Dust terrestrial feeders with calcium and vitamins.
Behind the name
Bombina refers to a booming or buzzing call, and orientalis means eastern. The common name refers to the bright warning colors on the belly.
