Pineapple Swordtail Care Guide
Xiphophorus hellerii var. Pineapple · Freshwater Fish

What Pineapple Swordtail look like
The Pineapple Swordtail is a domestic Xiphophorus hellerii color morph with yellow-gold to orange body color. Males have the distinctive lower caudal sword extension and a gonopodium; females lack the sword and are larger-bodied.
Behavior & temperament
Pineapple Swordtails are active, social livebearers that need more swimming room than platies. Males can harass females and challenge other males, so use a spacious aquarium, plants, and an appropriate sex ratio. They jump well, so a cover is useful. They give birth to live fry.
Diet & feeding
Pineapple Swordtails are omnivorous livebearers. Feed quality flakes or small pellets, spirulina foods, blanched greens, daphnia, brine shrimp, mosquito larvae, and occasional bloodworms. Vegetable matter should be included regularly.
Behind the name
Pineapple describes the yellow and orange domestic coloration; swordtail refers to the male lower tail extension.
