Roseline Shark Care Guide
Sahyadria denisonii · Freshwater Fish

What Roseline Shark look like
Sahyadria denisonii, commonly known as the Roseline Shark, exhibits a sleek, torpedo-shaped body that typically reaches a maximum adult size of 4-5 inches (10-12.5 cm). The species is characterized by its striking coloration, featuring a silver body adorned with a prominent black horizontal stripe extending from the snout to the caudal fin, complemented by a vivid red stripe situated above it, which runs from the snout through the eye. The dorsal fin often displays a reddish tint, while the caudal fin is distinguished by its yellow and black edges. This species lacks significant sexual dimorphism, although males may exhibit slightly more vibrant coloration during breeding periods. Defensive adaptations include its streamlined shape, which allows for quick escapes from predators, and its schooling behavior, which provides safety in numbers. Unique morphological features include a well-developed lateral line system, which aids in detecting water movements, and a small adipose fin located between the dorsal fin and the caudal fin.
Behavior & temperament
The Roseline Shark is a social species that thrives in groups, often forming schools in the mid to upper water column of their native habitats. They are primarily pelagic, displaying active swimming behavior and a peaceful temperament, making them suitable for community tanks. Breeding behavior is characterized by egg scattering, where females release eggs into the water column, allowing for external fertilization. The species exhibits minimal aggression, although males may display territoriality during breeding seasons. In the wild, they inhabit fast-flowing rivers and streams, where they utilize their agility to navigate through the current.
Diet & feeding
In their natural habitat, Roseline Sharks are omnivorous, feeding on a varied diet that includes small invertebrates, plant matter, and detritus. In captivity, they require a balanced diet consisting of high-quality flake foods, live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp and daphnia, and vegetable matter to ensure optimal health and coloration.
