Tigris Sulawesi Shrimp Care Guide
Caridina tigri · Freshwater Invert

What Tigris Sulawesi Shrimp look like
Caridina tigri exhibits a small, laterally compressed body, typically reaching a maximum adult size of 3 to 10 centimeters. The shrimp is characterized by its striking tiger-like dark striping against a translucent body, which serves as a form of camouflage within its natural habitat. Sexual dimorphism is subtle, with females generally being larger and more robust than males, particularly when carrying eggs. Defensive adaptations include the ability to blend into the substrate and vegetation, as well as rapid swimming to evade predators. Unique morphological features include a well-developed rostrum, prominent antennae, and a distinctively segmented abdomen, which aids in locomotion and maneuverability in the water column.
Behavior & temperament
Caridina tigri is primarily a benthic organism, often dwelling among leaf litter and substrate in shallow waters. It exhibits a social behavior typical of many shrimp species, often found in small groups, but can also display solitary tendencies. The species is not an obligate schooler, allowing for flexibility in social structure. Breeding behavior involves egg scattering, with females releasing fertilized eggs into the water column, where they develop into free-swimming larvae. The temperament of Tigris Sulawesi shrimp is generally peaceful, although they may exhibit territoriality when competing for food or shelter.
Diet & feeding
In the wild, Caridina tigri is an omnivore, feeding on detritus, biofilm, and small organic particles. In captivity, they require a varied diet that includes high-quality shrimp pellets, algae wafers, and occasional live or frozen foods such as daphnia or brine shrimp to ensure optimal health and coloration.
