Hypsolebias magnificus, commonly known as the Magnificent Killifish, exhibits a strikingly vibrant morphology characterized by a laterally compressed, fusiform body shape that typically reaches a maximum adult size of 5 inches (12.7 cm). Males are particularly distinguished by their iridescent blue bodies adorned with intricate red markings, which serve as a visual cue during mating displays. The anal and caudal fins are elaborately ornate, featuring bold patterns that enhance their aesthetic appeal. Sexual dimorphism is pronounced, with males displaying more vivid coloration and larger fins compared to the more subdued hues of females.
