Sunset Platy Care Guide
Xiphophorus maculatus var. Sunset · Freshwater Fish

What Sunset Platy look like
The Sunset Platy is a domestic Xiphophorus maculatus color morph selected for a warm yellow-to-orange or red gradient. It retains the compact, swordless platy body. Males are smaller with a gonopodium; females are larger and rounder.
Behavior & temperament
Sunset Platies are peaceful, hardy, and social livebearers. They do well in planted community aquariums with hard to moderately hard water and calm companions. Mixed-sex groups breed readily, so fry cover or population planning may be needed.
Diet & feeding
Sunset Platies are omnivores. Offer quality flakes, micro pellets, spirulina foods, blanched greens, daphnia, baby brine shrimp, and occasional bloodworms. A mix of plant and small animal foods keeps them in good condition.
Behind the name
Sunset describes the yellow, orange, and red gradient reminiscent of sunset colors.
